In the modern workplace we always require a means to take notes and write down thoughts. Often people will use small notebooks and journals to record anything significant, however they may work well for textual data, but what about videos, images and sounds? I often find that recording a thought verbally is more time-efficient then writing it down. Moreover, thoughts and notes scribbled in a journal are not searchable or quickly retrievable. This is the problem Evernote will solve for you. Watch this short 1 minute elevator pitch by the CEO of Evernote to get its gist.

Evernote is an excellent GTD tool and a tool to unclutter your mind, as well as an universal information capture tool. It most basically allows you to upload any kind of notes (text, photos, snapshots, audio, files) to the Cloud. These notes can be tagged for searching, be part of a notebook for organising and can also be geo-tagged (with smartphone integrated GPS).

The reason why Evernote is so powerful is because it is ubiquitous. Its available for Windows, Mac and various smartphones: iPhone, Blackberry and Android. So regardless of any compuing device you may be using, you still have access to all your notes, and you can add notes from any type of computing device. All notes are searchable, you can even search for text in images as Evernote OCRs’ the uploaded image. For a complete workflow of using evernote see this comprehensive guide byblog post by http://markstout.blogspot.com/2009/10/your-first-day-with-evernote.html

Evernote client applications are simple to use and feature clean interfaces. Its also possible to add notes to your Evernote from outside an evernote client application. You can twitter it to your Evernote and you can even email a note to you.
