Apple Continues to Clean up the App Store

Apple is continuing its clamp down on apps in the App Store. First it was just apps that featured sexy content, then applications that used private APIs (like wifi scanners) followed suite. Now there is indication that Apple is clamping down on applications that have been generated from templates. There are several services like AppMakr.com, that enable a user to create an app quickly from selecting pre-specified templates. Most of these services simply make an app out of pre-existing web content.

Apple has now given indications to the developers that such applications will be removed unless some new features are not added.

This move will certainly increase the quality of apps in the App Store. These applications offer few features on top of existing web content. But unless Apple clearly specifies what app developers can and can not develop, every new clamp down will result in more uncertainty which can discourage new and existing app developers.
